THE SERVITE RESPONSE

The Servite Order’s response aims to address the issue of sexual abuse experienced by children and vulnerable adults under its care. The Order recognizes its responsibility to offer suitable redress for those affected, and this page outlines the available options for seeking such redress.

The Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse began in 2012 and concluded with its final report in 2017. For information, personal stories, and reports, visit the link on Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
One of the key recommendations of the Royal Commission was that a National Redress Scheme be set up and this was established on 1 July 2018. In December 2020, the Order of the Servants of Mary (also known as Servite Friars) joined the National Redress Scheme. More information can be accessed via the link below.

The Apology and Acknowledgement of Hurt conveys profound regret for those affected by sexual abuse perpetrated by its members. Apology | Servite Friars Australia | Western Australia. Survivors and their families impacted by the abuse will be treated with the utmost respect and dignity.

To inquire about available support, please contact Professional Standards and Safeguarding at 0435 673 238 or via email at admin@servite.org.au. Support options may include conversation, counselling, spiritual guidance, and prayer.

If you are contemplating a civil claim for compensation against the Order, it is advisable to seek legal counsel regarding your options. Identifying the appropriate contacts may seem daunting. This page includes a link to Knowmore, a free service providing legal advice on compensation, redress, and abuse-related issues.
